Anaheim, California - Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout - 12.5% ABV - This decadent BBA imperial stout poured an opaque, oily-black color, with a small layer of frothy brown foam that leaves sticky lacing along the glass. The nose is loaded with rich aromas of coffee, bourbon, oak, chocolate fudge, vanilla, and maple syrup that blend together flawlessly to create a memorable experience with each sniff. The mouth was very similar to the nose, but it was more coffee forward, with a back end that resembled a bourbon soaked, chocolate covered marshmallow. The mouthfeel was nice and thick, with a velvet-like finish that lingers on the palate for an exceptional amount of time. I first had Ground State on tap at @bottlelogicbrewing, and I found that some of the flavors were muddled, but out of the bottle, it is a thing of beauty. 99/100

![]() Paso Robles, California - BA Russian Imperial Stout - 14.00% ABV - This decadent BA RIS poured an opaque black color with a small layer of brown foam that dissipates immediately. The nose featured seductive aromas of vanilla bean, cocoa nibs, oak, bourbon, toffee, and caramel malts that tickle the senses. The mouth was superb; flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and sweet toffee are prevalent up front, with a back end full of oak and boozy undertones. The mouthfeel was full bodied with a long finish that coats the palate wonderfully. This is my favorite release by Firestone Walker- I could drink it every day. Cheers! 98/100 |
