![]() Paso Robles, California - English Barleywine - 12.00% ABV - The Double DBA poured a hazy, reddish brown color, with a small layer of white foam that dissipates quickly. The nose featured decadent aromas of sweet caramel, coconut, toffee, vanilla, oak, and marshmallows- it's very comparable to the nose of §ucaba. The mouth was excellent. Flavors of toasted caramel, sweet toffee, rich malts, coconut, and oak are big upfront, with a slight boozy undertone. The mouthfeel was medium-plus, with a silky, smooth finish that keeps you wanting more. Double DBA is one of my favorite releases from Firestone in which I recommend to all. Cheers! 9.7/10

![]() Paso Robles, California - English Barleywine - 12.50% ABV - This savory barleywine poured an opaque, dark brownish-red color with a small layer of khaki colored foam that dissipates quickly. The nose featured decadent aromas of vanilla, marshmallow, coconut, caramel, toffee nut, raisins, and sweet molasses. The mouth was wonderful; flavors of golden raisins, vanilla, aged oak, toffee, coconut, bourbon, and sweet malts create one of the most balanced tasting, barrel-aged beers, that I've ever had. The mouthfeel was dead on too. It had a full-bodied feel, with a silky, low carbonated finish. This release was even better than the 2014; I need to get my hands on one of the older variants. Cheers to a solid brew and Happy Easter! 97/100 ![]() Milton, Delaware - Barley Wine - 15.0% ABV - This huge ale poured a hazy copper bronze color with a bubbly off-white head. The nose featured aromas of sweet molasses, figs, dates, honey, plums, and boozy malts. The mouth was sweeter than I expected; flavors of sugary fruits, such as citrus and raisins, caramelized dates, peaches, and figs are all big up front, with a slightly boozy back end. The mouthfeel is heavy, with a velvety-long finish. Olde School is a solid barleywine, but it was a little too sweet for my palate. Cheers to the guys at Dogfish Head - they're always releasing interesting brews! 8.4/10 ![]() Paso Robles, California - Barley Wine - 12.5% ABV - This ale poured a dark reddish brown color with a faint off-white head. Aromas of roasted caramel, bourbon, smoked wood, toasted marshmallow, and sweet malt compose the nose. The mouth features flavors of burnt caramel, sweet toffee, bourbon, molasses, and raisin-vanilla notes. This brew features a medium-plus body feel with a long, lasting finish. This is up there with the best Barley Wines that I've tried. 4.9/5 ![]() English Barley Wine - 12.0% ABV - This excellent beer poured a hazy blood-orange color with a collar of white foam. The aromas of rich, sweet toffee and caramel are big on the nose, but it also has an undertone of golden raisin, light oak, and vanilla. The taste is sweet from the malts, and not as powerful as a barley wine, but it certainly has bourbon, caramel, and toffee flavors throughout the mouth. The feel is thick and creamy, but it goes down nice and smooth. If you ever get a chance to buy one of these, please do yourself a favor. Cheers! 4.85/5 ![]() Dry Hopped Barley Wine Ale - 9.2% ABV - This is certainly a special beer. It poured a glowing red orange with a nice white head. The nose was full of citrus, hops, caramel, lemon peel, and roasted malts. The taste is very bitter, but great. It isn't for a palate that can't handle a bite. It is extremely smooth with a long finish. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes barley wines. A true masterpiece by Avery. 4.6/5 |
