Brooklyn Center, Minnesota - Imperial Black IPA - 9.99 ABV - This black as night IPA poured a syrupy, opaque black color, with a khaki colored, frothy head. The nose featured inviting aromas of roasted malts, resinous pine, burnt caramel, and dank herbal notes that burst right out of the can. The mouth featured delicious flavors of citrus and pine hops up front, with a backend full of toasted caramel, roasted malts, and a slight smokiness. Blakkr has a thick, heavy-bodied mouthfeel, with a silky, balanced finish that coats the palate nicely. This was a great representation of an Imperial Black IPA that I recommend to all. Cheers! 9.3/10

Petaluma, California - American Black IPA - 8.20% ABV - This tasty black ale poured a dark brown color with a khaki colored, frothy head. The nose featured aromas of citrus hops, sweet caramel, pine, and roasted malts. The mouth was solid; flavors of earthy hops, pine, grapefruit, and orange peel are prevalent up front, with a huge back-end full of sweet, roasted, dark malts. The mouthfeel was medium plus bodied, with a sweet and balanced finish the lingers in the mouth. The NightTime Ale was a great representation of a Black IPA by Lagunitas; I'll certainly be having more of this. 9.2/10

Escondido, California - Black IPA Aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels - 11.60% ABV - This ale poured a dark cola color with a layer of khaki colored foam that leaves excellent lacing on the glass. The nose featured aromas of whiskey, vanilla, oak, and pine that come together to create a wonderful bouquet. The mouth was solid; flavors of vanilla, rye, cocoa, oak, and whiskey are prevalent throughout the brew. The mouthfeel was medium-plus with a silky, long finish that lingers in the mouth. I loved the Sublimely Self Righteous aged variant- I can definitely go for some more. I enjoyed this brew at Stone Liberty Station, it's such a neat place. Cheers! 9.1/10

Escondido, California - American Black Ale - 8.7% ABV - This ale poured a deep black color with a big, khaki colored head. Aromas of roasted coffee, cocoa nibs, pine, sweet malts, and molasses compose the nose. The mouth features flavors of robust coffee, sweet malts, hints of pine, as well as having subtle undertones of citrus. This brew has a medium-plus mouthfeel, with a silky smooth finish. The Self-Righteous has always been one of my favorite Black Ales. Cheers to Stone! 9.3/10
